Many poisonous plants in the Parsley family, Apiaceae (formerly Umbelliferae) come known as hemlock:
Poison hemlock is a common European plant, Conium maculatum; it contains the alkaloid Coniine.
Water hemlock was the state poison of ancient Greece.
Water dropwort is Oenanthe crocota.
Many more related however comestible coinage come similar around appearance to the above hemlocks, including parsnip and carrot. These are so essential that a single knows what a single is picking, or even a effects can super easily become fatal.
Quite different from either which are actually a coniferous trees in the genus Tsuga, family Pinaceae. Which are actually non toxic, existence known as 'hemlock' across the supposed (but not super real!) similarity in the scent of the foliage thereto of Conium maculatum.
